Saif Ali Khan Says Bollywood Promotes 'Male Stalker' Genre; ‘Shah Rukh Khan Made His Career On It In The Beginning’
Saif Ali Khan is well-read and it comes across from the statements he makes. Recently, she spoke about Bollywood and its films relying on the topic of a male stalker. He said that it has become a genre in Bollywood and that Shah Rukh Khan made his career by being a male stalker at the beginning of his career. He was pointing out at SRK’s film Darr. It was one hit film that had Shah Rukh Khan essaying the role of Rahul who was obsessed with a girl named Kiran and he used to stalk her.

While Darr is not the only film relying on the theme of male stalking Bollywood has ever produced. Pointing out the same, Saif Ali Khan quoted to Zoom TV, “Male stalker is almost the genre for Indian cinema and somehow it's always been successful and Shah Rukh Khan made his career on it in the beginning.”

Saif blamed this on Bollywood’s obsession with the West. “And I don't know, it's like a society thing, we have a tendency to give the audience what we feel they want and again, these characters must have trickled down from the West... they must have been because we copy a lot,” he quipped further.

There have been many instances when Bollywood has been accused of copying Hollywood films. For example, Chachi 420 was said to be a copy of a Hollywood film called Mrs Doubtfire. Ghulam was said to be a copy of a film called On The Waterfront and there are many more. While there are official adaptations of films, many appear to be a blatant copy of Hollywood ventures.

Workwise, Saif Ali Khan, who last appeared in Sacred Games, will be seen in Laal Kaptaan. He also has Jawaani Janeman with Tabu in his kitty and Tanaji: The Unsung Hero with Ajay Devgn.
